Start your reunion

After the reunion

The weekend ends. The family doesn't.

Most tools stop when everyone drives home. On Grove, the 2025 reunion in Detroit is still here: the capsule the organizers published, the Family Feed, the stories, and a handoff brief the Detroit branch wrote for the Atlanta branch. That's why Atlanta started 2027 with a plan to build on and a list of mistakes not to repeat.

Shoutouts from the day

“First time all six branches stood on the same steps since 2009. I cried in the photo and I don't care.”

- Keisha Grant

“Uncle Walter's Spades table never closed. Not once. Detroit, you are the hosts of the decade.”

- Jordan Holloway

“Maya asked me who everybody was and for once I had the answer, because it was all right there.”

- Andre Holloway

The organizer publishes the Capsule (how many came, the moments, the shoutouts, and the reunion's photos) and emails it to everyone who RSVP'd yes. Family members who sign in see every photo in the Capsule; the public reunion page shows only the photos that were on the public photo wall.

Handoff brief · excerpt

Notes from the Detroit branch for the Atlanta branch

From Brenda Holloway-Price, 2025 lead organizer, to Denise Holloway-Carter · September 2025

What worked

  • Branch captains. Each branch had one person who chased their own RSVPs. Nobody had to call 96 people.
  • Opening payments 7 months out. People paid when it suited them and nobody got a surprise bill.
  • The potluck board. First year we didn't end up with four potato salads.

What we'd change

  • Book the pavilion by January. We lost our first choice waiting on a vote.
  • Seat the elders first at the banquet, near the front and away from the speakers.
  • Order T-shirts earlier. Twelve kids' sizes arrived the Thursday before.

Carried forward to 2027

  • Budget categories from 2025, as blank lines to fill in
  • The task list, with what Detroit wished they'd started sooner
  • The weekend schedule and the venue short list
  • The payment setup: adult and under-16 prices

“Denise, call Aunt Loretta before you pick the Sunday church. She will have opinions, and she will be right.”

The Family Feed stays open

After the reunion wraps, the feed becomes its living record. People keep posting photos for years.

Handoff is a handshake

The next host branch and organizer each say yes before anything is created. Nobody gets volunteered.

The family stays the family's

The roster, the archive and the stories belong to the family, ready for every reunion after this one.
