Band was built for teams.
Your family is not a team.

Band is a solid app. Coaches use it. Scout leaders use it. School groups use it. And because it is private and organized, some reunion organizers end up there too. The problem is that a family reunion is nothing like a soccer team, and Band was built around teams.

The sign-up problem

Before anything else, every person in your family who wants to be part of the group needs a Band account. Band works in its app or in a web browser, but either way each person signs up, verifies, and finds your group. Band does let you invite outside guests to a single event by email, which helps, but the posts, chat, and calendar live inside the group.

For a youth soccer team, that works. Parents are used to it. They do it at the start of every season. For a family reunion with 60 people ranging from 17 to 84, it is a different situation. Aunt Patricia is not signing up for another app. Neither is the cousin who still has an iPhone 8 with 2 gigabytes of storage left.

Grove does not require a download for family members. They get a personal link, tap it, confirm they are coming, and pay (by card once the reunion is activated). On any phone. No account needed to RSVP and pay; the family space uses an emailed sign-in link. No app store. Done in four minutes.

What it takes to onboard one family member to Band

1They receive an invite link or group code from you
2They download the Band app or open Band in a browser
3They create an account with a phone number or email
4They verify their identity
5They find and join your group
6They figure out where everything lives inside the app

Multiply that by 60 family members. Then count how many of them make it all the way through. That number is your participation rate, and it is lower than you want it to be before the reunion has even started.

What Band is actually good at

Band handles group communication well. Posts stay organized. The calendar keeps schedules visible. Coaches and group leaders get real utility out of it because their groups have a clear structure (a roster, a schedule, a season) and Band is built around that shape.

A family reunion does not have that shape. There is no roster you can pull from a database. Half the people have not talked since the last reunion. The organizer is chasing payments across three different apps, answering the same question eight times in a group thread, and trying to remember what the venue deposit was from two years ago. Band was not built for any of that.

It also does not know that your family reunites every year, that Grandma Dee has stories nobody has ever written down, or that the branch from Houston has never hosted and it might be their turn. Those things are not features in a sports app. They are the whole point of a reunion.

What Band gives you

  • -Private group posts, photos, and calendar
  • -An account every family member has to create
  • -Event RSVPs, sign-up sheets, and to-do lists, but no payments or budget tools
  • -No concept of family branches or generational structure
  • -A read-only archive when the season ends, not a head start on next year

What Grove gives you

  • ✓A personal link to RSVP and pay, no download, no account needed
  • ✓RSVPs and card payments collected at the same moment, once the reunion is activated
  • ✓A budget you can share with the family, not just keep in a spreadsheet
  • ✓Elder voice stories, a family archive, and a family tree that grows
  • ✓History that carries forward so next year starts with something

Your family should not have to create an account to come to the reunion.

Every extra step between the invitation and the RSVP is a family member you lose. Grove sends a personal link. They tap it, confirm they are coming, and pay by card once the reunion is activated. That is the whole process. No app store. No account needed to RSVP and pay; the family space uses an emailed sign-in link.
